Cutting a path
We are going to create the grip shapes by cutting the Grip
Path you have just 'emptied'.
- Make sure the Grip Path is selected.
Because the path has no fill or stroke it can be difficult to select it. To
make this easier always select it by clicking on it in the Layers
Panel.
- Zoom in on the bottom left corner of the image.
- Create a vertical guide at 150 pixels across
the page.
Remeber to do this click and drag form the ruler at the side of the page.
You can position it by looking at the top ruler. Creating a guide automatically
turns the guides on. You will see the guides you created earlier are still
there.
- Choose the Knife tool.
- Click and drag the Knife tool across the Grip
Path so it creates a line form the curve point shown to the intersection
of the Grip Path and the guide you created.

You have now just created two paths. A larger one to the right and a smaller
one in the bottom left corner.
- In the layers panel click on each of the Grip Path
layers to find out which one is the larger section to the right.
- Select the larger section and Choose Edit > Cut.
This leaves us with the path we are going to use to create the Grip Shapes.
We are left with an unclosed path. The next step is to close the path and then
create a fill effect.
