Optimizing your image

The two main choices of file type you will use for exporting images for the web are jpeg and gif.

A rule-of-thumb is that if your image (or the slice you wish to export) contains large areas of blocky solid colours then gif is usually the best choice. If your image (and most of ours does) contains fine gradients or photo realistic elements then jpeg is usually the best choice.

We are not going to spend too long considering the optimization settings for each slice of our image. We are going to set them all to jpeg and choose a high quality setting.

  1. Click on the small + sign besid where it says Web Layer in the Layers panel.

You will then see the individual slices that make up your image.
  2. Shift-click on all the slices in the Web Layer to select them all.
  3. Expand the Optimize panel to make it visible if it is not already.
  4. Choose JPEG - Better Quality from the Saved Settings pop-up menu.

You have now just set all the slices to export as jpegs with a quality setting of 80
